Buddhist Cultural Center in San Isidro de Heredia, Costa Rica. Ulf Baungaard’s latest artistic creation.
Next to the Braulio Carrillo National Park, in the mountains of the Province of Heredia, Danish artist Ulf Baungaard has contributed his time, energy, his Tibetan artistic skills and a lot of love to decorate the entrance and columns around the Buddhist Cultural Center building.
The place is called Monteazul (Blue Mountain) surrounded by an exuberant nature and a privileged weather which is forever changing due to its location.
The Buddhist Cultural Center in San Isidro de Heredia has become the latest canvas in Ulf’s work. He created and painted all the designs which decorate the building. There is a temple inside and it will be used as a Cultural Center for teachings, meditation, and many other activities.
Each drawing has a meaning within the Buddhist philosophy, always, in some way, related to life, compassion and peace among all sentient beings.
Ulf Baungaard is a recognized painter of Tibetan Thangkas, who has used the original techniques for his paintings since the moment he began his journey.
He was born in Denmark and at the age of 18 he moved to Nepal to live and study this particular kind of art and, Ulf Baungaard is considered among the best painters of this kind of art in the world today.
None of his paintings are the same, he doesn’t copy, not even his own work, and each painting has its own character according to the person who orders something specific and he makes his own canvases and colors with natural pigments.
Ulf’s last exhibition was in Copenhagen, Denmark in July 2010 where almost all his paintings were sold. Ulf – who is fluent in English, Spanish, German, Danish and Tibetan – chose Costa Rica as the place for inspiration for his work and says that here in Costa Rica;
“I have found the peace and the right environment that I need to create my art. I have been inspired by the nature, the peace and tranquility of this country” and, you can see that serenity and beauty reflected in his Thangkas.
There is a person in Costa Rica who has purchased a painting from Ulf. This person is very special, he knows Ulf from the moment that we arrived in this country, and he opened our eyes and taught us about the culture and its people. We will be always thankful to him, you know who you are!
Thanks Scott one more time!”
