Poverty in Costa Rica. Chart comparisons.
Although Costa Rica has a smaller percentage of people living in poverty than most countries in Central and Latin America, according to the latest State of the Nation report, there are 1,140,435 poor people in Costa Rica and 336,305 of those are extremely poor.
According to the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), in the past 10 years, Costa Rica has managed to lower the level of poverty from 20.3% in 2002 to 18.5% in 2010.
