Costa Rica’s Craft Beer and Home Brew Festival. To be held in Escazu on Saturday 20th April 2013
The second annual Costa Rica Craft Beer and Home Brew festival is to be held in Avenida Escazu (next to Hospital Cima)
This event is organized by the Costa Rica Home Brew Club (Club de Cerveceros Caseros y Artesanales de Costa Rica) and sponsored by Product C restaurant. It will be held Saturday 20th April 2013 between 11am – to 7pm.
This festival is way out of the box for what is considered tradional Costa Rican beers and will showcase some of the great, versatile
beers that exist in the world with cool music, educational demonstrations, cooking with beer, as well as beer and cheese
pairings.
There will be 20 craft and home brews such as Belgium Wheat’s, Stouts, some with Chocolate, others with Mango, even
beers that have been aged in Oak barrels for over 1 year.
Like last year there will be the 2nd annual homebrew competition.
According to Luis Arce co-owner of Tico Birra a home brew shop on Pavas Road: “10 years ago one would go into any Costa Rican fine restaurant and ask for a glass a wine, you would have the choice of Red or White, now you have multiple varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet, Chardonnay and Shiraz, well we are at the same point with beers, the Costa Ricans have no idea about the many styles and flavors of beers that exist”.
“If you want Craft beer in Costa Rica there is only Costa Rica Craft Brewing that is in full production and distribution with 35 and Costa Rica Meadery that are coming on board rapidly.
We have two brewpubs in Costa Rica Volcano Brewing (Lake Tilaran) and BriBri Springs (Puerto Viejo –Talamanca).
There are two places where the home brewer can buy materials to make beer, Tico Birra and La Bodega de Chema (both in San Jose). “Says Arce.
