I sometimes take for granted that I live in a country where literally millions of people come and visit just for a vacation.

At 36 years old, I’m not at an age where I have the luxury to be retired, so I do still need to work just like most people in their 30s, but I realize that I’m fortunate to essentially be working while I’m on vacation!  

You see Costa Rica really is just one big vacation.  The lifestyle caters to everything you think about when you think of a vacation.   

• No alarm clock.  Check.
• Rest and relaxation. Check.
• Warm weather.  Check.
• Great food.  Check.

While I still may go to work, just like everyone else, it is in an environment with much less stress and virtually no time wasted in traffic, allowing me more time to enjoy my days and weekends.  

I always tell people that I’m able to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner with my wife everyday, sadly there aren’t too many people in North America that I think can say that. 

The other beautiful part of living in Costa Rica is the mini-vacations that most of us full time residents make throughout the country.  

Costa Rica, while small, is a very diverse country with many different climate zones and amazing scenery.  

Sometimes we might make a quick weekend getaway to an all inclusive in Guanacaste, a couple days in the thermal hot springs of Arenal, or maybe its dinner and theater in the city, or simply a day trip to watch whales in Dominical.  

Again, all of these places where most need to travel on a plane 1000s of miles away to visit, I have in my backyard or am just a short drive away.  

Its one reason I love living in the Jaco area, because it really is the most central spot to reach all of the popular Costa Rica destinations.

So I have to admit I have it pretty good.  Starting a business in Costa Rica isn’t easy and definitely presents some challenges, but for those who have the patience and ambition to set it up, there’s an opportunity to turn your life into the permanent vacation.
