Fortunately Tamarindo is the place to go if you and your family want to have a few unforgettable experiences. With that said here are some activity ideas for you and your family that are both safe and fun for the kids.

1. Schedule a Visit to the Local Skate Park.

   It might not win any accolades as the world’s greatest skate park but kids rarely hold those sorts of rewards in high regard — if it’s fun it’s all good. For making new friends kids can just hang out and enjoy themselves outdoors for an afternoon while they get some exercise with a bit of skating.

2. Zip Lining

   This is one of the most exciting activities to enjoy in the area. Kids will find no end of delight as they zoom through the treetops of the forest canopy. This is quite literally a roller coaster ride done native style. It’s a growing industry so there are quite a few canopy tours popping up around the area which offer this exciting past time. Some, although completely safe, may be a little scary for the kids so look around to find something suitable for your child’s age bracket.



3. Kayaking

   Tamarindo is a coastal town so water activities play a big part in the areas appeal. Whether you use your own or hire out a kayak for a day your whole family is sure to enjoy a leisurely trip up the estuary. Here they will get to see nature in its natural habitat and will likely spot monkeys, iguanas, many species of birds, and even a crocodile or two. Imagine the look on your kids face as they catch sight of those beasts, while still being perfectly safe.

4. Spend a Day at the Beach

   On a warm balmy day there’s nothing better than slipping into the cool Pacific Ocean for a swim. Tamarindo is home to some of the world’s most renowned beaches with a few locations that have surf that is a little more forgiving to the little ones.



5. Snorkeling

   Whether you are into swimming or snorkeling there’s a beach close by that is perfect for whatever activity you have in mind. Snorkeling is a particular favorite as kids get to explore the ocean floor in a safe manner with equipment that is much more affordable than the typical scuba gear — as well as not needing any training to use. A popular beach for an afternoon of snorkeling can be found at Playa Portrero.



6. Surfing

   You can’t spend any time at the beach without at least letting your kids try a little surfing. There are some great beaches with waves that are just the right height for the little ones to hang ten. Use one of the many local surfing trainers to help your kids get up to speed super-fast.

7. ATV riding.

   If you want to see your kids’ faces light up then just let them know that they are going to spend the afternoon ATV riding. There will be plenty screams of delight as you slip and slide around mud filled tracks. It’s an afternoon of creating memories that will last a lifetime.

This is but a small selection of fun and fairly safe activities for kids to indulge in during a visit to Tamarindo. There are plenty more ideas such as stand up paddle boarding, night time shows, live music, or even just exploring the local country side on horseback.
