Finally the light has been directed on these leaches in the public sector.

Those of us with businesses in Costa Rica have know this instinctively for years. With a current trade deficit, this is indeed not sustainable. Not even for three more years. It will collapse. And soon.

As many old timers in the private sector like to muse… “Costa Rica is living off the last of Grandma’s jewellery.” So what to do about it?

There is an old saying: A problem well defined is a problem half solved. But that other half of the solution will be extremely difficult to deliver.

Since I am a pomo man (marketing and advertising) my thoughts always race to Motivation. How do we motivate a majority of voters to toss these blood suckers out. Not doubt, this is Otto’s big play for his next go around at election time.

Nice play indeed.

Once the denials and P.R. attempts to obfuscate and mis-direct have failed… and assuming they do… then La Nación and Channel 7 have to step up their efforts to keep the light shinning on the leaches.

What will motivate them to do so?

Remember… the boys in the Legislature get to control the licences both these organizations operate under.

Not sure who has the most power in that tug of war. But let’s say the media wins and proves immune to the political muzzles… will they stay interested for long enough?

The easily distracted Costa Rican gets bored quick.

Soccer. Soccer. Soccer.

La Teja T & A (Tits and Asses)… Whoo–agh!

What I tell my many U.S. friends (and a daughter in left wing, Freak Show Central-Manhattan), is that if you want to know what will happen to the U.S. with it’s similarly bloated public sector, just check the history of Detroit, Michigan or Stockton, California… soon to be followed by Chicago, Illinois.

Read “Detroit: An American Autopsy” by Charlie LeDuff.

My info is also based on a lot of time spent there for forty years. Dig not too deep and you will see the same thing that preceded collapse.

Using the above venues as examples, here is the real world aftermath as manifested in daily life.

  • Fire? No trucks to arrive to put it out. The house burns down and people die. No replacement insurance. You are homeless.
Crime? No cops or equipment to come and kill the bad guys. Thugs rule.
  • Phone line down? Burst water line? Broken sewer line? The dial tone will be displaced by crickets chirping as you wait for a repair man to arrive…. assuming you got through to the provider to lodge your complaint.
  • Sick? Line up starts at 4AM and bring something to pee in while you wait.
  • [custom_script adID=150]

  • Need Groceries in San Jose? No stores, They will all be robbed to death. Head to the suburbs… if the bus is not broken down or the drivers are not on strike… or if there is even a route at the hour you need.
  • Want your kid to be well educated? He will be. In how to fight, use or deal drugs and guns at the local shit hole school now plastered with graffiti… if it’s still open.
  • Roads? Street lites? You’re kidding right? Think their bad now in CR? You ain’t seen nothing yet folks.
  • Traffic control? Neighbor intrusion controls? (barking dogs, loud music, machinery etc.)… none. Violence your only option.

That’s just a glimpse of the real world in the above mentioned venues and there are more and more being added to the list throughout the U.S. (And Greece, Italy, Spain, England and all places socialistic.)

Those public sector unions will sue the rest of Costa Rica into oblivion before letting go of these obscene perks if the law is not changed to disallow them such recourse.

So that is the place to start. Close the door on the right to sue, then have another election (because the current gang is same-old-same-old.)

Clean out the Legislature! Useless career politicians owned by the powerful few families with the still concentrated wealth of CR. Then start chopping.

Using another U.S. venue as a positive example of how to turn things around into the black ink, take Wisconsin and very successful measures taken by conservative Governor Scott Walker. (Who just threw his hat into the presidential race)

Last week, he even gonged tenure as a measure to cut U of W obscene budgets by almost a half billion. He’s taken on and busted the unions successfully despite attack after attack from all over the U.S. He’s even issued tax refunds as a result of cost cutting.

Do nothing?

Hello Greece.

Germany has stopped taking calls. So has China.
