One of the reasons my husband and I moved to Costa Rica was to take a break from the long hours we were working in the States.

When we first arrived it took some time to get settled and if you have made the move and live here permanently I’m sure you know what I’m speaking of. We are not retired and came here with one of us already having a job.

My husband Keith was busy with the construction completion of our home and taking Spanish classes five days a week. Once that was finished, we thought we would have all the free time to do the things that brought us here.

We now have two young children, a Real Estate and Property Management business with about a dozen employees and many other responsibilities, so free time is definitely harder to come by these days.

One of the things we like about our business is that we get a lot of “benefits” from the local tour operators. Because we also book tours for our rental clients, the local tour operators sometimes offer to let us “try out” their tour, hotel, go fishing, etc, so we will recommend them to our clients.

This provides us the opportunity to get out of the office and experience some of the fun things our clients are doing as well as see different parts of our area that we may have missed otherwise. Plus, I find it’s very important to recommend reputable tour operators. Some tours are definitely better than others!

In Guanacaste there are many national parks to enjoy. Each place offers something different from the other. Whether it’s the beaches of Santa Rosa, the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano and park or the caves of Barra Honda or river tours at Palo Verde, you can be sure to see something unique to the area.

Many of these places also offer guided tours and for the more adventurous there are canopy tours, ATV tours, kayaking or surfing.

Recently, our office staff went on tour in Rio Seco with Pura Aventura. Here we spent the morning horseback riding up the mountain. Once we were there we zip-lined down, passing eleven platforms on their canopy tour. I’ve done canopy tours all over the country and each time is a different experience.
