On Friday evening 28th September 2012 my girlfriend’s eldest son Gabriel and I attended a TicoBirra.com beer tasting event at Basil’s Arte Culinaria in Belen, Heredia.

How could it not be a fun evening? We had young male and female guests from different areas of San José, all of whom arrived on time (??) and, all of whom share a love of beer… As Benjamin Franklin once said:

Our TicoBirra.com hosts spoke about the different types of beers, different processes, the many types of beer glasses and how to serve beer…

From lagers, wheat beers, to ales, a stout and finishing with a much sweeter cherry beer for dessert we both left happy and content and I’m hoping that Gabriel can now appreciate that Imperial (Costa Rica’s biggest selling beer) is really only suitable for washing the wheels of his car…

Our chef and his staff from Basil served up some tasty dishes which were matched perfectly with the beer we were tasting at the time so we enjoyed a spicy cheese, fish in a delicious butter herb sauce, chicken, beef and a cheery cheesecake to finish off the evening.
