SOLD-Building Our New Costa Rica Mountain Home. Part XII – US$56,103.94 invested so far in the construction.
This last week was spent doing homework into the kind of windows and doors we wanted to install in our new log styled vacation home located 80 minutes from San Jose.
We asked five different companies and received three different proposals. We negotiated with one of them to eventually decide on their bronze coloured aluminium framed windows and sliding doors with clear, 6mm thick tempered glass.

I’m a bit of a softy for people that have already done excellent work for me and Jimmy Chacon has done great work in the past so even though I could have had these windows and doors done for less, I feel more comfortable paying a little more to Jimmy because he’s a perfectionist and I KNOW that he’ll take hims time and do a great job.
Total cost including installation is estimated to be around c2,000,000 colones which today is about US$3,540 and Jimmy was paid 50% up front to start the work and he’ll be paid the balance upon completion.
We have not decided exactly what we’re doing for the garage, pila and bodega yet but will probably have to buy some windows for that too which are not included here…
Talking about wood, I took a nice walk around the 5,000M2 property again to check out some of the goodness-knows-how-many trees we have on the property. I love trees…
