Building Our New Vacation Home in the Mountains – Part VI – US$66,791.47 invested so far.
It was a scorching hot day up at the mountain this week. I don’t know if it’s the elevation but after only 35 minutes, the tan on my lady’s face was noticeably darker and you could see the lines where her blouse straps had protected her shoulders from the sun …
A few of our VIP Members have been asking about the difference in construction costs between the pre-assembled wood panels that we are using to build our vacation home compared to typical block construction.
Obviously raw materials prices vary from day to day however building with concrete block would at this time would cost about 35-40% more than using the pre-assembled wood panels.
The concrete has been poured around the front door frame because the fireplace, the fireplace wall, plus the wall on the other side of the fireplace (which is the master bedroom) and the concrete front door frame will all be enchapado (sad to say, I had to look up the English translation) which means inlaid, we will probably be using piedras del rio or in simple English – river rocks …
We are also considering Perdura Stone which would be about 36% more expensive to buy but much lighter and quicker to lay.
As of the 14th February 2009 the total cost so far in building this vacation or retirement home in the country has been US$66,791.47 which includes the cost of the 5,000 square meters of land which was ready to build on.
