Our construction crew dwindled in size a little this week as they have now finished the garage area and almost completed the master bedroom wall so most of the heavy work has been done. We’re now focusing more on the details…

This weekend we bought the kitchen sink and the taps (faucets), the bathroom faucets, a zillion light bulbs, and a Gines propane gas ‘on demand’ water heater with all the necessary tubing. You can see a short video of how this water heater works here.

We like the Gines brand because A: It’s 100% made in Costa Rica, B: The model we bought has a decent 12 liters per minute capacity. C: It appears to be very safe to use. D: Very affordable to run. E: It’s easy to install. F: They offer a two year guarantee and G: At c106,191 (US$187) it is also very affordable.

The Gines water heater will be positioned in the same room as the washer and dryer and we have decided to place the large propane gas tank outside the bodega where we’ll chop and store the firewood. The tank will still be under the roof and in the shade. We will buy a smaller propane tank for the kitchen stove which will be stored under the kitchen counter.

We also bought the ceramic tiles to use in the kitchen area but have not yet decided on which pila (it’s like a sink/trough which could be made of concrete, or plastic and is typically located outside the main home and is used for washing clothes and tools etc). We will put ours in between the washer and dryer.
