U.S. Drivers Are Lucky
So when it comes to gas prices, consider yourselves very lucky if you’re in the USA because even though gas prices in Costa Rica are higher than they are in the US, if you were living in the UK, you would paying a lot more… More than double!
The average price in the UK is GBP1.323 per litre x 3.78541178 = GBP5.00 per US gallon which is US$8.02 per gallon for gasoline or, as it’s called in the UK – “petrol”.
Gasoline Prices in Costa Rica – As of January 2013
- Regular gas is 678 colones per liter x 3.78541178 = 2,566 colones per gallon (US$5.21)
- Super gas is 718 colones per liter x 3.78541178 = 2,718 colones per gallon (US$5.52) and
- Diesel is 640 colones per liter x 3.78541178 = 2,422 colones per gallon (US$4.92)
1 US gallon = 3.78541178 liters and according to the Banco Central de Costa Rica, the current rate of exchange is 491.84
Taxes on Gasoline
In Costa Rica, taxes make up about 37.74% of the price for regular gasoline. In the UK taxes make up 75% of the price and only about 11% in the US….
