These projects include terminals in Barra del Colorado and Batan, Limon, Carate in Golfito, Drake and Palmar Sur in Osa, Laurel in Corredores, Nosara in Nicoya and in Golfito City.

Improvements.

According to Viviana Martin Salazar, vice-president of Transportation and Public Work (MOPT), since September they’re constructing a terminal that cost 25 million colones where passengers can wait for their planes.

In Palmar Sur and Golfito, they’ve invested 25 million colones in units that should be ready in a few months. In the Laurel terminal, Carate and Golfito, they are investing over 430 million colones in runways as well as in the access roads to the airport.

Without guarantees yet.

Currently they are investing 500 million colones in Barra Colorado’s runway and landing platform and 75 million in Batan’s runway. But it’s still on hold, waiting for Costa Rica’s Office of the Comptrollers approval.

Martin said that the government hopes to repair at least 24 rural airports in the next 4 years. She added that the number of people flying throughout the country has increased in 25% compared to last year.
