Costa Rica Gas Prices – May 2006
The price of crude oil has risen sharply from $63 a barrel in mid March to $72.4 in April 2006 and this increase has lead to significantly higher prices at the pump all over the world.
According to official statistics from the Energy Information Administration the US average price per gallon this week across the USA is $2.91 up 67.8 in one year alone.
Costa Rica Gas Prices:
In Costa Rica gas prices are only 16% higher than the USA. In April 2006, the price of gasoline in Costa Rica was US$3.38 per gallon.
Regional Gas Prices:
In comparison with the rest of the Central American region:
- Costa Rica US$3.38
- Nicaragua $3.27
- Honduras $3.24
- Guatemala $3.02
- El Salvador $2.95
Taxes on Gas:
In Costa Rica, taxes make up about 33% of the price for regular gasoline and
30.1% for diesel. In the UK taxes make up 75% of the price and about 19% in the US….

So consider yourselves very lucky in the USA because you would pay more than double (124% more) for your gasoline in the UK.
