Costa Rica Tire Repair – Murphy’s Law in Costa Rica
Murphy’s Law unfortunately applies to living in Costa Rica as well as everywhere else.
Unlike most laws, these are simple laws to understand in any language. For example there’s the one which states that; “cellphone coverage will be extensive and reliable unless you must make, or are expecting an important phone call.”
Murphy’s Law also has a separate clause that speaks of the circumstances when you will have a flat tire: “Flat tires will only occur on the one day of the year when you have loaned your jack to someone else and he buggers off without giving it back to you.” Or, “when you have the most important appointment of the year.”
So it happened a few weeks ago leaving home early one morning for an extremely important, ‘you-only-get-one-shot’ appointment to discover a rapidly deflating tire thanks to an enormous nail.
I drove very slowly with emergency lights flashing down into Escazu to the Compañía Mercantil S.A. Where they offer various services for oil (servicios de lubricación), batteries (baterías), brakes (frenos), alineamiento (alignment), engine (motor) and llantas (tires).
The tire was removed in seconds, the nail was given to me with a big smile and then they repaired the tire and put it back on… I am not kidding you when I say that I was in and out of there in under 7 minutes and on time for my appointment.
Total amount charged was 1,111.92 colones with tax and the big smiles were included at no charge – That’s US$2.13
I love this place.
