46 US warships and El Colono has been ordered to take all ammunition off the shelves. They cannot even sell what is in stock. I have confirmed this in the El Colono in Nuevo Arenal and in Fortuna. Has anyone heard this or have any further info? This is scary. I moved here from Canada to get away from this totalatarian bullshit but am I any better off? Lets see where this goes. James

I have just got off the telephone with three people (my shooting range and two gun stores) who tell me there are NO new restrictions whatsoever on the sale of ammunition in Costa Rica .
I am not familiar with El Colono but it would seems more likely they lost their permit to sell ammunition for whatever reason.

Stop being so paranoid! The U.S. has been working with LATAM for years! Most of it for the good. We as Americans continuously go out of our way to help those in need. Sometimes, that means doing things that some people may disagree with or question, and that is ok. At the end of the day, we do good will and the locals benefit. If you do not know what “humanitarian assistance” means, look it up!
I agree with most of you that the U.S. is in pretty bad shape and your decision to leave is respected. However, you do yourselves no justice when you bad mouth, attack or publicly question what the U.S. is doing. Do your research and speak from a position of knowledge, instead of being so paranoid and raising doubts and suspicions of U.S. motives. When a Costa Rican hears you speaking this way (or reading your words), they would assume you know something they don’t know.; after all, you are a “gringo(a),” like it or not. Why make yourselves the potential target?
Be the good citizen you really can be. Respect the country you have adopted, but most importantly show them that you are there because you love their country, culture, the people, etc. and not because you are running from something you choose not to deal with. Support all the good things the U.S. is doing there and do not support the things you disagree with. Remember that just because you disagree doesn’t mean it is not good. Let’s be good citizens and enjoy life!

(there, I feel better now!)July 14, 2010 at 1:14 pm #171858maravillaMemberit is the duty of every U.S. citizen to question what the government does; after all, we put them in power and they answer to us. our taxes pay their salaries. the rest of the world has a dim view of what the U.S. has done for the last 75 years, so to pretend that we condone this only gives us the appearance of being REALLY stupid! and how would we become targets because we question 46 warships, 7000 marines, and 200 helicopters on a supposed drug intervention (i can’t believe anyone believes that considering what’s going on in honduras right this minute and next year in nicaragua).

You are correct when you say we should question our government. Publicly admonishing is NOT questioning.
I guess your post proves my point. I bet you also believe the U.S. went into IRAQ for the oil.

Although I don’t supposed the Costa Ricans, the drug traffickers or we will notice the difference…

Hi Scott, I do not believe that any of the ships have any Neuclear Weapons, and yes the Navy shipos will be under the command of the USCG. Since the Coast Guard and the US Customs Border Officers are the only officials allowed to arrest person in the Waters off any coast line. In fact the Coast Guard can make arrests in the International Waters which starts 200 miles off the coast line. Also those ships will only be coming and going with a few at a time. And as you know it was not too long ago that some drug lords shot and killed some CR Police in San Jose. Yes the war on drugs has been going on for more then 50 years that I know of. In fact in the late 70s and the 80 I made more arrests then I can remember. Also seized more drugs the any person here has ever even dreamed of seeing. One boat I seized had so many drugs I had to slepp up on deck on top of several 100 bales of Marijuna. Anyway those ships also include Hospital ships, One of them US Iwo Jima which is on its way here right now, is slated to help many locals living to far to get reasonable health care. They will fly the medical staff into the remote local villages in the mountians. Will it solve the drug war, NO what will solve the drug war starts with elimatening the ACLU lawyers. Then instant exicudition of caught drug runners. It would behoove you to check the facts before publication. Many of the ships given permission to dock in Costa Rica will never visit the country. The first ship to visit will be a hospital ship to dispense aide to the needy.
The publication of Anti-American proppaganda by leftist activists makes Costa Rica seem less friendly to Americans who are considering investing in the country.

” . . . by leftist activists . . .”??? You think this nonsense is coming from leftists, Ed? Just what universe to you live in?
Trust me, the conspiracy theorists all infest the right side of the political spectrum, not the left.
