But what are they are FEEDING those pond-raised fish in Costa Rica? It creeps me out to think that farm-raised fish are pumped full of antibiotics, antifungals, and lord knows what else in that kibble they throw in the pond. I’m assuming it’s no different in Costa Rica than it is anywhere else where they raise fish in crowded receptacles. Here in the States, I am relegated to eating wild salmon, Alaska cod, and halibut. Pity because that trout in Costa Rica was very tasty, but if it’s farmed, it’s off my list. I have a good source for local organic chicken and some meat, eggs, and milk, so I’m covered on that part. When we were there this winter, my husband went to a shrimp farm and was horrified at how they raise those critters and all the “stuff” they put in the ponds/tanks to disinfect everything. So I guess I ain’t eating shrimp either! It’s tough being a foodie and really caring about where your food comes from and how it’s raised and trying to avoid eating things that a human just shouldn’t consume — like all those chemicals!

There must be some place you can get fresh fish and shrimp from the Pacific fishing boats. It may be worth a drive to the coast, and bring back the fresh stuff right off the boats and freeze it.
