My husband and I have had a good experience with Solid Car Rental company also. The process was no more difficult that in the states. We also have found great success with homes for rent by owner. They can be in the price range you mention and anywhere from rustic to fancy. We stayed in a house south of Domincal for $125/night and it had a pool!!!! Have a great time on the trip.

Thanks so much for your input. We are far from world travelers but are ready to give it a go. Staying in a fancy resort, isolated from the locals and the real feel of the country is not what we want. We are very excited for this trip. I think we are planning to stay in Domincal for a night before heading to San Isidro.

We still have some openings in February at our small oceanfront hotel
