I have found them to be very well versed in a lot of what you may need to help you with a transition to Costa Rica. The also can provide lots of useful info, as does this site. Some of the members here are members there too, I’ve seen them on the forums there. Their site is very informative and compliments this site well… information from both usually is similar, which is good for verification purposes. It can’t hurt to be a member of both, at least that’s my opinion.

The ARCR is good for getting started in Costa Rica being as you will have little or no sense of direction when it comes to many of the things you completely understand in your native country.

That said, the ARCR is a for profit organization that benefits from a client base that does not initially know of any other resources. Many of the products and services they provide or that they make recommendations to other providers within their network are over priced … sometimes by quite a substantial amount of money.

My advice is to enjoy their services for a year, shop pricing from the beginning whenever possible and certainly research your options on associated products and services once you are more established and know where to look.

My husband and I joined this association several years ago after we went to one of their monthly seminars about retiring in Costa Rica. If you are thinking about moving to CR, I highly recommend the seminar. We will re-attend before we make our move as retirement is about 8 years away for us. The association’s newsletters are very informative. The only negative thing I can say about ARCR is we used one of the attorneys who left his/her card at the seminar. This attorney turned out to be very disappointing. But then again, we have now been through 4 different attorneys in 5 years and are looking for a fifth. Our friends, who have lived there for over 30 years, still can’t find a decent attorney, so I guess I can’t blame ARCR!! My advise is join!!
