last year alone i went to 6 funerals in costa rica. the caskets are nothing like the ones they have in the states. they are not big, bulky, or ornate. they are simple wooden things that have a glass window in the top. the body barely fits in there. it is a vessel to be buried in, not to have a party. it is very basic, some more basic than others, but pretty much you can have a nice funeral for less than $1000 here, not the $8,000 for a box to bury someone in — that{s what my mom’s casket cost (total waste of money imho) plus another $5000 for the funeral home and all the chingadara they sell you to remember your loved one that they nick you for in the States. to me, those big funeral expenses could be put to better use.
