A list of the best and worst places to retire on a list of 29. Ecuador and Mexico rate higher than Costa Rica.Go figure. Costa Rica is 9th, the U.S. is 22nd and the UK is 28th, next to last, which is South Africa.

Sweet deal huh? You buy a $250,000 home and they earn $25,000 buckaroonies!
Here at WeLoveCostaRica.com my #1 concern on is only recommending experienced developers with a proven track record of delivering quality real estate and, ‘if’ I happen to get paid a consulting fee by the developer (typically a tenth of what they charge), that helps.

I know drug violence is a local issue in Mexico, but because of that problem, they are facing a potential failed state situation. How would you like to be living in some sleepy Mexican village when the government falls and chaos spills into the country side? They have a fully armed military which has been known to go renegade and join up with drug organizations.
Costa Rica is a secure state compared to the rest of Central America. I don’t care how many cameras and sunglasses are stolen from tourists and nationals, it is nothing like the violence we are seeing in Mexico and the instability we see in Honduras.

Even though the DEA and CIA still conduct operations in Costa Rica, ever see some funny looking unmarked planes at the Liberia airport? Once upon a time, we had considered retiring to Mexico, however, with the drug cartel war, government, military, and police corruption, Vietnam during the TET offensive would be safer.

Who, exactly, says those weightings are valid? Why does one factor get more weight than another? Sez who?
Change the ratings weights a bit and you can make any of these countries come out on top or on the bottom.
