Hello! A friend in Costa Rica wants to send about $200 from Costa Rica to me in Canada. Many of you have probably transferred money. I would really appreciate some suggestions as to the least expensive, best hassle-free method.

(Go to http://www.paypal.com) Then, your friend in Costa Rica can deposit money into that account online using his or her debit or credit card. When the money is deposited into your PayPal account, PayPal will notify you by e-mail. Then you can go into your account and have the money transferred to your bank account in Canada. Or, if you’re so inclined, you can use the $200 to pay for online purchases from e-bay and other online retailers.
PayPal will charge you a small fee (maybe three or four percent) for the transaction, and it will take about three or four days for the transfer from PayPal to your bank, but that’s still cheaper than an international wire transfer and faster than having your Costa Rican friend mail you a check drawn on a Costa Rican bank to deposit.
To accomplish this, PayPal makes you go through a procedure to verify your account. It’s a minor hassle.

Thank you.

February 3, 2009 at 10:30 am #194751floodedskyMemberThank you very much, Scott. I think I’m going to go with Western Union because it seems so much easier and not all that expensive.
February 3, 2009 at 10:35 am #194752floodedskyMemberThank you. I hadn’t heard of Money Gram before until you mentioned it. I discovered that, yes, there are 5 Money Gram agents within 2 miles of where I live. Fab!
February 3, 2009 at 10:37 am #194753floodedskyMemberThank you for replying, David. I used PayPal for purchasing things before but it was a real hassle because I don’t possess a credit card. It took about 10 days for the eBay seller to receive my payment. So PayPal isn’t faster for my purposes. But thank you!

I used money gram the first time to China. All I had to put down is the person’s name. The person with His/ID goes in to many locations in CR. Try to get that persons 4 names.
On the internet you can send with a deduction from your account.
Citibank.com had a like to foreign banks

It is cheap and haven’t lost one yet! Or I have friends there I owe $200 to pay them and tell me how you want it from Wisconsin?
