Hello everyone. I need your urgent help. I’m in tamarindo right now and will be traveling with a friend to Nosara today. I have found 3 ways of getting there:

    A) bus from tamarindo to Santa Cruz takes abt 1 1/2 hours. Then from Santa Cruz to Nicoya (no idea how long)! Then from there to Nosara. This is the longest option but also the cheapest.

    B) car rental. Cost $50 and a 2 1/2 hour drive. I’ve never driven in CR and have read the last 30 minutes arriving in Nosara the roads are so bad I’m afraid I could plow the rental into a hug pothole and well, be screwed.

    C) by taxi, the most expensive, abt $130. Also a 2 1/2 drive but then I won’t have to worry abt actually driving and the driver knows better how to drive here obvious.

Does anyone really know about this bus trip? Is it safe?

I’ve read it takes only 3 hours but that can’t be right, can it?

    Your help is really appreciated!!

The bus from Tamarindo to Santa Cruz should be closer to one hour, then it is only 17km (11 miles) from Santa Cruz to Nicoya. Buses to Samara and Nosara leave every 30 minutes or so.

Then you have about 30-45 minutes to the turn off to Nosara just 6km outside of Samara. All of that journey will be on paved roads, and the bus will make frequest stops to pickup or drop off folks along the way.

The road to Nosara is in miserable shape, so that could take an hour or so for the 30 minute (normal) trip.
The bus service in CR is how this country moves everything.

Just keep your luggage with you and keep an eye on it. The trip will be part of your CR “experience” and you will recall it for years to come!!

You could use the buses, and then hire a taxi for the drive into Nosara.
