Ok, I may sound shallow but many of the things I miss about the USA are the little things myself and my children enjoyed. WALMART is one…yes, I know Costa Rica has a Hipermas IT IS NOT THE SAME!!! The other is Blockbuster video. Is there or is there not one in Escazu???
I don’t know any Blockbuster Video in Escazu bit there are DOZENS of good video rental places all over Escazu, the one we use is the VideoCentro chain with stores in Plaza Los Laureles, next door to AutoMercado in Santa Ana and in Escazu.
HyperMas would not be exactly the same as WalMart is in the US obviously because the customers are not the same.

Blockbuster had a store in Escazu some years ago near El Cruce, but I understand that the franchise went broke, because too many videos were not returned.
WAL:MART what could you possibly miss about that place… I HATE WALMART…. to much junk everywhere, too many plastic bags, unfavorable people and their obnoxious children… it’s all stuff I’m sure if we really thought about people can live without…. excess…
I often wonder why people bother to move to Costa Rica and then expect to shop in American stores and hang out with American people. Generally, these are the same ones who complain about the roads, and this and that but move to Costa Rica to get away from heavy taxation….it baffles me.
It may come as a suprise to you that some of us didn’t move here to get away from America. Some of us still like our homeland, but found opportunities and a lifestyle we enjoy here in Costa Rica.
I complain about the roads, but accept that this is part of where I choose to live, and taxes…… when you have employees and pay everything you are required to, they are not light by any stretch. Mostly the difference here is you can cheat and likely not get caught.I don’t hate Wal-Mart or McDonalds. I just don’t choose to buy products at that price/quality level. That said, you can find any kind of plastic junk you want here as well.
I enjoy my life here in spite of the frustrations. Just as I did back home.
