ThanksJune 30, 2011 at 9:01 pm #202684maravillaMemberwhy would you need a dental plan when dental costs here are about 1/4 of Stateside prices? My dentist in colorado charges $275 for a cleaning. i pay $40 here. my husband’s dentist in the States quoted him $28,000 to do the surgery he needed done. He had everything taken care of in Costa Rica for a cost of less than $2500.

Just doing some due diligence. Didn’t you see Scott’s article that i think came out yesterday?
July 1, 2011 at 12:49 am #202687maravillaMemberi did see the article. the prices they charge in the States are obscene. $28,000 for dental surgery — was he kidding? that’s why my husband had it all done here in costa rica, in our town, with the specialists coming from SJO to do the intricate work. saved $25,000! even with dental insurance, who could afford prices like that? what do you do, take a second out on your house??? but how would dental insurance that you got in the States work here? by the time you pay premiums, deductibles, etc. wouldn’t it just be cheaper to pay for it all out of pocket?

O.K. Why would you admit that the dentist in Colorado is YOUR dentist?? Please give his name so we all can avoid him.
July 1, 2011 at 10:40 pm #202689maravillaMemberhuh? the dentist in CO happens to be one of the best — he’s perfected many of the surgical techniques that other dentists now use and he’s a professor at the university. if you’ve got plenty of dinero, i would highly recommend him. Why would i NOT admit he was my dentist? i only go to the best, but sometimes the best is just out of a normal person’s price range and why should we pay all those costs if we could get it done here for less??

Just because one BC/BS plan in one state does cover care in Costa Rica doesn’t mean that another plan, issued by the same company, will also cover you. To be sure of your coverage, you must probe deeply.
Take it from one who’s been there . . .
