I have been following the project Kristin Knowles and her husband are building. https://www.welovecostarica.com/members/597.cfm
Does anyone know what kind of construction is going on with this house? Looks to be steel framing but what is that roof?

Memebers (builders mostly) of my small home plans site have been looking at this photo and scratching their heads. What are we building here?
My brother has recently bought property in CA and is talking about building some sort of family compound. I’d love to hear about other building projects expats are involved with.

Various types of more or less translucent “plastic” materials are available to construct roofs. The MultiPlaza in Escazu has large roof areas that are translucent or transparent.
Nice to see John Raabe, of countryplans.com, on this website! John’s website is the first website where I started my education in green building, small home ownership, cob building and straw bale building reading. In fact, I have owned two sets of his plans for many years now. The fruit of my study on his site begins in May, when I go to CR and begin to see for myself what is possible on a small retirement budget.
Check out John’s site, the discussions and the pictures are worth a thousand words for certain.
Thanks Professor John!
Thanks,
Tom in Portland, Oregon
I have been following Kirsten’s project, too. It must be finished by now. Is there any update on the construction? Any pix of the finished home? Kristen, where are you and what is the status of your house?
Thanks.
