Apparently the big boys (Marriott) think CR has the ingredients to attract big spenders…

Bulgari, name associated to jewels and accessories of towering exclusivity and value, it is the mark of super luxury hotels that will settle in Costa Rica.
This will be the first hotel of this chain in the American continent. Alone there are three hotels Bulgari in the world: Milan (Italy), Bali (Indonesia) and Tokyo (Japan). In the 2012 he/she will open up other more in London.
The arrival of this chain to the country confirmed it, for separate, Allan Flores, minister of Tourism, and Luis Castro, lawyer of the signature Associated BLP and who represents to the developers of the project.
It is the American signature Canyon Group, company that develops hotels for the deluxe segment, and that it has seven towns in the world.
Bulgari is property of the chain Marriott, Francisco confirmed García, general manager of JW Marriott, five stars’ hotel that operates in Guanacaste from the 2009.
Detail. The minister Flores indicated that the negotiations for the arrival of Bulgari to the country began two years ago.
The new hotel will be located in the Ecodesarrollo Parrot, in the canton of Liberia.
As much the minister as Castro estimated the investment in little more than $100 millions that it includes the construction of a hotel of 60 rooms and 30 villages, in a land of eight hectares.
“The public puts of the Bulgari they are multimillionaire, people that consume goods related with the mark”, the minister indicated.
The above-mentioned test is in the price of a room night in one of the three hotels Bulgari that surpasses the $3.000 and it can reach the $4.000.
Consulted on this new hotel, García manifested that each mark has characteristic “differentiating in the physical plant and in the services.”
“It is very positive that a hotel of this caliber operates in our country. This bears to the development of the local infrastructure”, he/she added.
Flores recognized that the infrastructure topic is one of the most important challenges that has the country, with the purpose of improving its tourist competitiveness.
August 8, 2011 at 2:03 pm #172920AndrewKeymasterI genuinely love Costa Rica but also genuinely detest OBSCENE displays of wealth and, paying US$3,000 – US$4,000 per night for a hotel is obscene.
Having said that I don’t think this Bulgari hotel will ever be built in Costa Rica…
Bulgari has three of these ultra-luxury Bulgari hotels in Milan, Italy plus Bali, Indonesia and Tokyo.
They will have a new one in London in 2012 and the plan is to have another in Liberia, Costa Rica?
In the article Francisco Garcia refers to the “… development of the local infrastructure” and Costa Rica does have a perfect climate and a natural beauty that is difficult to find anywhere else but comparing infrastructure anywhere in Costa Rica to London, Milan, Bali or Tokyo is just plain silly…
Long time VIP members may remember my very sarcastic article about: St. Regis Resort in Costa Rica – Taking Costa Rica real estate to a whole new, some might say ‘ridiculous’ level’ [ https://www.welovecostarica.com/members/1199.cfm ] which was first written in October 2006 and in October 2008 St. Regis was declared “in limbo.”
London, Milan, Bali and Tokyo are truly international destinations which attract wealthy people from all over the world but Guanacaste, Costa Rica?
Sure! There may be some wealthy people from the US that will visit but is Liberia going to attract the Russian oligarchs or the Asian billionaires?

What do you think?

money is relative
if your worth 100 million dollars than 3000 a night is nothing.. and in these peoples world thier day to day living is very different than our day to day
Im not saying better
just different.. because whether or not you pay $50 a night or $3000 its all about the memories in the end.
I’m sure if you took your fruits stand friend from sabana park for a tour of your penthouse he would probably say the same for you LOL
so like everything its all relative
what is OBSCENE
is using $$$ for influence that is causing much of the worlds suffering with greed and no regard for causality.
Im kind of shocked that they would consider here as I dont see costa rica such a high end place
but what the heck do I know

Extreme wealth is a great evil. It has no redeeming qualities. It comes from the exploitation of other human beings. That is the ONLY source and I would prefer not to see it in Costa Rica. I, for one, am deeply offended by opulence.
