Hi All, anybody have any experience with this? Would like to take the bus from SJ then rent a car in San Isidro and on to Dominical. Want to sit back and enjoy the view. It was also recommended not to drive this rd. if not experienced.
Thx………….BillOctober 28, 2009 at 3:56 am #198418jamesgoshen4MemberI made this trip 2 years ago. Nice ride but a little scary at times. No need to rent a car. You can always take a taxi or another bus. I took the taxi as it was pouring rain and the taxi was about $20…..I can’t remember exactly. You will want to get the bus in SJ in the AM.

We’ll need a car eventually so we can meet with realtors and look at homes while we’re there. Hopefully we can p/u a car in San Isidro and drop it off in Jaco or SJ airport. We’re hoping the new toll road is open by end of Mar.October 29, 2009 at 4:52 am #198420jamesgoshen4MemberIt is difficult to find the bus terminal in SJ. However, if you take a taxi and tell them where you are going, they should know where you need to go. If you are planning to rent a car, I would rent in SJ and avoid the taxi and bus transfers. This would save you a couple of hours if budget is not a major concern. The road from SJ to San Isidro de General is no big dea,l just be aware when driving over Cerro de Muerte. Follow the road to Cartago, it is a major highway.

We didn’t find the road that bad, but we are from the mountains of Arizona, so…… However, if you pay attention and take your time, you should be fine. The other time we went, we took one of the tourist mini-vans, I think it was Easy Rider. The cost was about $30 ea., and they picked us up from our hotel and delivered us to our hotel which was wa-a-ay up on the Escalante road overlooking Dominical. Then we caught the bus from Dominical back. It was a regular bus with no A/C, but honestly, once you leave the beach area, the A/C isn’t an issue. Hope this helps!
