Hola,
We bought a small house in Tronadora, near Tilaran, last summer. We will coming at the end of March to set this house up for visitors and short or long term renters. The largest missing item in the house, which is otherwise fairly well furnished, is a doube and/or queen sized bed. Advice from a few gringos in the area said the best selection of beds and mattressess could be found in the Central Valley and then have it shipped to Tronadora. We would want all of this to take place (having it shipped) while we are in CR.
Can anyone suggest furniture stores, or methods of finding beds and mattresses from stores that will ship them to the Arenal area on short notice? We are not in the position for having a bed made; we would prefer going to shop for a bed and mattress and having them shipped while there. From what i can see doing this sort of thing is very different than in the States with lots of bedding specific stores to select from. We welcome any suggestions!
Thanks,

If you’re flying into San Jose and renting a car, you could take a side trip through Sarchi on your way to Tilaran. Along the main drag from Grecia through Sarchi and on to Naranjo, you’ll find a number of stores (maybe more than twenty) with readymade furniture. Many of those sell mattresses and box springs as well. And, for the right price, I’m confident that most of these merchants can arrange delivery to you on short notice.
If this appeals to you, take the Grecia/Sarchi exit off the autopista (Rte. 1/the InterAmerica Highway) which is about twenty kilometers from Juan Santamaria International Airport. Follow the road into Grecia and then follow the signs for Sarchi. Or ask.
If you don’t speak Spanish, you’ll be looking for signs that say, ”muebles” (furniture) and ”colchones” (mattresses).
Oh! And there is a TempurPedic store in Santa Ana.

We’ve bought a bed through Sarchi and one thing you have to be wary of are what appear to be different standards for beds (Queen, King, double etc). We had a bed made for ‘Queen’ and when we tried to place the true Queen mattress in it, the bed was too short. They had to create longer rails to fit the bed, which was a bit of a pain.

My wife needs a hard mattress, for medical reasons; while I need a more soft mattress. If possible, I would like to avoid buying one here in the U.S., and shipping it to CR. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

We own two of these mattresses, one in our guest house and one for our own use, and we love them. We’ve had our original Sleep Number mattress since 1997.
You can get along without Sleep Numbers’ foundation, which is nothing more than a flat platform. The air-adjustable mattress itself is fairly bulky and not light.
If time permits, and you are not shipping your own container to Costa Rica, you might be able to include one in a consolidated shipment that one of the Costa Rica-based shippers puts together.

Thank you for the information. It appears I will need to have a couple of them shipped to CR. Take care.

The additional info is greatly appreciated. I will follow your recommendation.

First off. In Costa Rica you don’t buy furniture. You have it made.8) Arturo gets mattresses that are made by a German company in the free trade zone. Super nice, and reasonable too.I don’t know how folks do it in San Jose but that’s another country compared to Tronadora.:D KInda like a tropical Iraq:shock::roll:
BTW You got a new restaurant in San Louis, a new bakery, and ownership of Five Corners has changed and now it’s TexMex.
Good Fajitas !My name is Dooooooooooooglass.I own the botanical gardens down below the mirador .
