My wife and I are heading in from Central Valley on Sunday and we are looking for accommodations: 2 adults, 1 medium dog (crated), for Sunday the 3rd of Feb thru Fri the 8th at the latest. I see Iguana is pretty popular but I am going to guess it’s booked this late in the game. Any leads on cabinas muy barata (cheap) would be appreciated. Thanks all.

Ultimately we are looking to move to Herradura in March so we are going to shop. If somebody has a lead on a more long term situation, please advise. Thanks in advance.
January 30, 2013 at 10:19 pm #170389critterhillMemberHave you tried vrbo.com, home away.com, or airbnb.com to find something? When we visit, these 3 sites are how we find our places….and our rentals have always been VERY reasonable.
January 30, 2013 at 10:26 pm #170390damonreMemberI am so stupid. Yes, I have used VRBO before but I didn’t even think of it this time. Thank you I will check! Also, if anyone has any personal local leads, please hit me up. Thank you!

May I ask why Herradura over other places?
January 30, 2013 at 10:49 pm #170392damonreMemberSure… we have been to Jaco and had more fun than I expected with the variety of press it gets… but we really liked the water quality a little north of town. I have an affinity for snorkeling and it was like glass there. Also, Herradura offers us proximity to Jaco (we are in our 30’s) and Manual Antonio, Hermosa, etc without the “chaos” of town. That said, for the right price we would consider closer to town as well. For us, anything is an improvement over downtown Los Angeles.
Cheers,

When Herradura is mentioned, I think of the salt water crocs in the area. Or is that a myth? I really don’t keep up with it because I’m not a fish.
I would bet almost anyplace in CR is an improvement over LA.
Good luck and enjoy. We hope to make the move in 3 1/2 years when we retire. I envy you making the move at your age.

[/quote]I, too, love Manuel Antonio and points south. Have you looked at Estrillos Este/Oueste? I remember thinking that was a pretty area kind of sandwiched in between Jaco and Manuel Antonio. It’s all pretty through there… it gets VERY hot there, though. I remember originally looking in that area and a realtor we met cautioning me about the heat and the very high a/c costs.

http://www.costaneraplayahermosa.com/There is also The Surf Inn (brand new and beautiful with a restaurant on the roof $$$http://surfinnhermosa.com/
Los Olas is a bit more geared towards surfers, but you can get a cool A-Frame room on the beach. Also a great small restaurant on the beach. Great banana pancakes!
There are a number of other hotels along the “strip” most in the $40-$60 a night range.
