I’m seeking information about cable hook-ups in Costa Rica. What are the costs involved and what can I expect. My house has an antenna and previously was hooked up to some cable service. If I bring boxes from the U.S., will they work? Thanks, Douglas in San Pedro de Barva…
My understanding is your box from the States will not work. We have satellite, but may be getting cable soon so we can have a higher speed internet connection. Our satellite installation was $92, and that included the equipment and the first months service. Our monthly service without added premium channels is about $33 a month. They just installed the cables for Cable Tica in our town and it won’t be ready for another month, but we were told the installation and monthly service is similiar to what we have paid for Direct TV.
It’s worth repeating in the context of this discussion that Dish Network from the U.S. is also available in Costa Rica; however, you can only receive those channels which emanate from satellite #119, and you get the conventional broadcast channels (ABC, NBC, etc) from New York City. You can go to http://www.dishnetwork.com, click on Programming, and look at which channels are available. The “America’s Choice 120” package appears to be the best bet. You can also subscribe to some premium packages (HBO, etc).
Two companies in Costa Rica can be your link to Dish Network.
I’m moving to Tronadora (near Tilaran) next year and was wondering if I could bring my DirecTV boxes with me. DirecTV uses that same satellite for the same programming DISH does, and I wonder if those boxes would work to receive the same 119 content? Has anyone heard of this working?
