Spite – they could start by using bullet proof glass for the tellers instead of the completely open counters they all have now. The bank guards here are instructed not to use their guns – I kid you not, and this of course doesn’t help.
Not sure if you live in a gated community and never leave your house but I can assure you that crime is happening; serious crime, each and every day. Do you watch local TV?
