I am always surprised at the number of people who tell me – that things are better in Panama…

When I ask them about crime they tell me it’s much worse in Costa Rica…

    Hmmm!

Our neighbour Panama has a murder rate which is 72% higher than Costa Rica and thankfully Costa Rica’s – even with the increase we’ve seen over the last five years – remains the lowest in all of Central America.

Murders (homicidios) have increased most severely in Guatemala where the rate has soared from 28-47 per 100,000 people. Belize has increased from 19-33, while Panama has increased from 10-19 and Costa Rica has increased from 6-11.

Scott, we did check out Panama prior to moving here, and it is a nice country but it’s not for us!

Would LOVE to know your thought process ‘costaricafinca.’ how you evaluated the two and why you decided on Costa Rica….

Sounds like the beginnings of a great article eh?

Would you do that for us?

And I would LOVE to know how speculating that members of the Canadian Club might be disproportionately susceptible to homesickness and therefore more likely than others to leave Costa Rica and return to Canada is a cheap shot. How is questioning the basis for assertions of fact a cheap shot? How is speculating on a flaw in the data a cheap shot? How is questioning the coincidence of the arithmetic outcomes of the examination of the raw data a cheap shot? And at whom was this cheap shot aimed?
