We all know that brokering real estate in Costa Rica is an unregulated industry. There are 100’s of experienced folks who conduct/present themselves as professional realtors. There are thousands of folks who opportunistically sell real estate with little training or experience.
I know that last year the government attempted to mandate the licensing of accredited realtors but it didn’t happen.
Though I have deep real estate experience in the US and am formerly licensed, I’m considering becoming certified by the CCCBR, more for the education than the credential.
I’m curious to learn impressions on the perceived advantages of using a CCCBR certified realtor and to what extent the countries leading realtors are CCCBR graduates.
Scott-Are you CCBR certified ?
Are your recommended realtors CCCBR certified ?
Thoughts on pro’s and con’s of investing 5 full days of my time to earn this designation greatly appreciated.
I have not attended the CCBR training. Of course I am not a Realtor, I do not claim to be a Realtor and do not personally sell real estate.
I have read all their study materials and yes! I do insist that any Realtor we recommend on this site has done their training as it most certainly gives them a better idea of how the system works in Costa Rica. Having said that, a huge number of people who call themselves Realtors have not taken the course.
Your real estate experience in the US will help you – if you are legally allowed to work here as a Realtor – it will increase your knowledge about Costa Rica real estate and also improve your Spanish and give you some of the Spanish real estate terms that you will need in your everyday life.
