it’s an inducement to not talk and drive. i learned my lesson about parking in the yellow for even ten seconds. that one costs me $352 to run into my vet’s office to buy a bag of dog food. I was lucky that we talked the transito out of taking the plates, which would’ve meant having to go to SJO to retrieve them, pay another fine, and risk getting caught driving without placas which is about a $250 fine! if all of those things had happened $350 would’ve been a bargain because it would’ve been closer to $800!

good for you that will show you .. its better if you just stay in your penthouse and only come down to rent a movie lol
its truly silly these high ass fines. imagine the cash windfall. a few observations
1. where is all that money??? for a country that seems to be coming up with new tax laws i have to ask where is all this extra money ???? $600 cash.. thats a ton of money.
the first week when they decided again to change the traffic laws. the plate number restriction. how many times did they change this from peak hours to all day back to peak hours. a few weeks ago the week they changed the law again they made it all day I happen to go into san jose (otherwise known as the armpit of costa rica) and I got my very first costa rican ticket.
almost $100 for driving into san jose restricted. I said but its only 1pm and he replied no sir now its all day..
that week they issued alot of tickets and made alot of money… tax free.. on the back of its citizens.. the law breakers..
its really a joke to have these laws arbitrarily changed on a whim and one hand does not know what the other is doing
again where the heck is all this money??? no one ever talks about this.
these transit officers are now very powerful people on the streets and they have the power to inflict financial damage to individuals.
2. they will probably approve the flat tax on all S.A.s now some people my think its ok.. its a good investment for protection. hogwash I say. and these constant incremental increases and one day we will wake up and realize costa rica may be just to expensive to live.
3. costa rica still is the best place to be at this time because its 100 times worse back home. I tell you if Nicaragua had some good sense they could really leverage this since its really inexpensive to live there and food is cheaper than here.
4. in all my adult life I have never had more utilities, bills fines shut off on me than here as I am very diligent in making sure I pay all my bills. the burden falls on us to make sure we pay all bills instead of waiting for a bill I just autopay and say.. here just take the money for godsake.. so what they make errors and double charge me once in a while.
still I have this index that I follow and it like a graph that has different metrics.. cost of food, cost of gas – utilities – entertainment – water – etc.. and when the metrics get to the point where it doesn’t make sense to live here any more then its time to relocated
because.. getting up and leaving is the real ONLY freedom we as individuals have left.
pura vida amigos
