Hi I am just starting to look into Costa Rica because my husband has been told about a job oppertunity he may have over there with his current company. Our main concern is our 2 yr old daughter. Is there anyone on this forum that has raised or are raising children there. I obviously do not expect to find a Chuck E Cheese, but what kinds of things cater especially to children? I want her to have as much of a fullfilled childhood as we have had. Also another concern would be adding to our family-we always wanted one more but are a little afraid of birthing a child in a foriegn hospital. I have read about the international schools and would probably be sending her to one of those. How is thier curriculum compared to the avg. US school? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

My recomendation would be to take some time and work your way all through this forum….you will be able to see from the topics which one you are interested in. This has more information than any book you could possibly read. Best is that it comes from people who are truly interested in learning more about C.R.
As for raising kids…I think they will have more fun and better experiences as they will be more “real life” activities and not T.V. and Chuck E Chees..Trips to the beach, jungles, volcano’s, monkeys, beautiful birds and all kinds of wonderful adventurs.
p.s. Scott who runs this site is a Prince and extremely knowledgeable and will help you personally if you need it!
Best of luck

The quality of care I have received thus far has been wonderful. I can’t complain. I have many friends that are from the US & Canada who have had babies here and have had great experiences. Depending on where you are in the country, you will have more of the commercial aspect of entertainment for kids near the central valley, but I find that there is plenty to do near the beach (where we live) as well, just different things to do. In most areas, you won’t be able to just go out for a stroll with the baby since there is not that feeling of suburbia that is so clearly felt in the US. There are also some things- albeit not critically important thing, but toys games etc. that you simply cannot get here, and will have to/want to bring in. Some aspects are wonderful about raising a child here, but you need to go into it with open eyes.
