David, yes, I’ve had my water tested for contaminants, pcb’s, pesticides, you name it. There were none. My yard has never had a fertilizer applied to it, nor do I use any organophosphate products anywhere on my property thta could leech into my well water. My property is completely organic and will remain that way as long as I live here, just as my house in Costa Rica has never had any contaminant sprayed on anything, nor will I allow my gardener to use any commercial anything on my property. And there is no industry or farming anywhere near me. I live in an almost pristine area here in Colorado. I try not to use any product that the gov’t says is okay for me to use — teflon-coated anything, especially clothes, commercially processed dog food, or human food, I won’t even use a commerical make-up because I know that beauty products are loaded with carcinogens and dyes made from coal tar. I am fanatical about being as close to nature and minimizing my exposure (to the extent that I can) to any potentially harmful substance because I do NOT trust our gov’t or even private industry to protect me, or at the least not kill me with their for-profit concoctions! I learned that from investigating Big Pharma and the FDA for ten years. A few thousand dead people from taking any drug is just collateral damage, and most of the drugs such as the cholesterol drugs, antidepressants, antipsychotics are, in a word, fraudulent, and have no scientific evidence to back how they work or even IF they work, and yet we are told they are safe and effective. I take full responsibility for what I put into my body and what I choose to expose myself to. Fluoride and chlorine are carcinogens. I don’t want them in my water. The one and only time I drank municipal water was at the library on a very hot day. I only had one mouthful of water and by the time I got home, which was 20 minutes later, I was sick as a dog. I called the health department and demanded that they check the water at the library they called a week later and said that there were acceptable levels of bacteria in the water, and that it was probably the fluoride and chlorine that made me sick if I was not used to ingesting it on a daily basis. They admitted that my gastro distress was consistent with exposure to those two chemicals. Sheesh
I don’t think that the recent spate of contaminated food products and toothpaste and dog food have anything to do with smaller government and everything to do with big gov’t gone mad and running amok! The citizens are the last thing on the agenda when billions of dollars are at stake. It’s always profit before people. Sigh.

June 11, 2007 at 8:28 am #184071AlfredMemberScott, Thanks for putting my water bill into perspective. Now I may almost be happy to pay it. When we had water district meetings, before we had to build the new system, the town representative told us the national average was about $1,000 a year for municipal water, and that was back then. So I guess there are a lot of people paying dearly for water here.
