I know this is probably a long shot but is there any agency to which one may report poor treatment and work by auto mechanics?

Ha! If so let me know. I have been screwed by almost every class of service provider here in Costa Rica. From attoeneys and banks to windows and Zebras – lets not go into the Zebra tales, but let’s say that every service provider from a to Z has got a piece of me. Now I with hold payment for a while to see if what the service actually works. If it doesn’t I catch them on a technicality. At the beginin I say i want servive without problems and the price has to be a without-problems price. When they have come back for the umptenth time and finally got it somewhat close to right (or tolerable0 I say that I will pay them in a week and that that they can excepect the with-problems price which is a 10% discount. If they complain or get ugly then I tell them to write me a recite that says paid in full (with a 15% discount). If they balk I say see you in court.

I have never been taken to court. I have heard some belly-aching like you would not belive. And some “service” providers just never call back. They know they and their “service” sucks.

So tjhere you go. Consumer protection in Costa Rica ? yea right. Costa Rica is a land of make believe. Children playing grown up’s games.

Lets go shopping, but we won’t buy anything kinda stuff. The intention here for the most part is playish. Sad in most ways but refreshing if you only want to fornicate, drink or party….

I have been waist deep in the everglades swamp as A kid fixing swamp buggies and airboats, and doing const. since I was put on the roof at 9.
that makes costa Rica the land of milk and honey for me,yeehaw,

Its funny how Americans are so accustomed to some beaurocratic office to protect them from every possible issue that arrises.
The mechanic I go to charges something insane like $8 per hour

I can’t speak to the work Kordan’s wrench does, but our local guy is just fine. He’s as good as any I dealt with in the U.S. and much more accessible.

Ingenuity is how the first tool was invented, the first dwelling was built, and where the 327 Chevy came from. I think I’ll get along with the Ticos… 😀
