We have been considering a land purchase in Costa Rica and have received information from Costa Developers, regarding their Costa Esterillos Estates project. Does anyone have any experiences with this developer (from their Costa Montana project)or thoughts on the area they are developing (the Jaco area)? We have been to the Playa Hermosa area – by Playa del Coco – and enjoyed it immensely, and are not familiar with the area being promoted to us. Thanks for your comments.

The area is booming regarding real estate development and I believe this trend will continue. A major reason for this is its location (1.5 hours from San Jose), all the amenities such as malls, restaurants, large food markets, world class fishing and golf etc..And the investment into the area by large multi national developers. I can not give an opinion on Costa Developers other than that I have driven by there projects and work is being done and the one nearest Jaco does look quite impressive. All this said you really need to get down to the area and have a look around before you do anything. There are a lot of projects available from land to condos, some of the better condo projects are listed on this site. All that said the area is beautiful with black sand beaches a short drive to Manuel Antonio (45 minutes) great surfing, 45-60 minutes to get up into the mountains for cooler weather(Atenas), 5 star eating at Villa Caletas, Xandari and the very impressive Los Suenos resort(if thats your thing)..Good Luck!

We drove by a number of the Costa Devlopments and talked to their telemarketrs when doing pre-trip due diligence. The Costa development south of Jaco (Costa Montana) was quite far from basic amenities. Many of the real estate brokers treated Esterillos as if it were in another province as opposed to down the road about 8 or nine miles. Even though Jaco is up the road about 10 miles from Esterillos, driving at night to go get a loaf of bread or other basics can be a pain. Pedestrians walk on the the road on a poorly lit road making a quick jaunt to the store an adventure and a burden!
It really depends on how close or far you want to be from shopping, restaurants and other conveniences. The Esterillos area seemed a bit remote with no shopping nearby. We want to experience Costa Rica with all of the conveniences initiially and not necessarily all of the adventure! We can then decidelater if we want to buy another property in a less developed area later.
Whatever you do, check out the area and other listings first before ponying up any money to the many hustling developers that are ‘on the prowl’ for Gringo gold!
Good hunting!

When i came back to the U.S., they called me and said they would send me an information packet and then would follow up with a sales rep on what i thought. I can tell it will be a hard sell on their end, they are really pushing the speculative side of buying and then having quick equity, just buying the land, starting at $80,000 for 1/2 acre on the 3rd phase, which is higher up on the mountain. They said though that i would need to come down and walk the property, which obviously makes sense. I am just getting info and a feel for who and what, since there is quite the variety of opportunities. I have not found anyone who has purchase yet to ask their thoughts, but i am sure they would provide the happy customers.
