For any one visiting Lake Arenal and wanting to avoid the tourist traps in La Fortuna, we have found a delightful B&B/Cabins in Tronadora on the Tilaran side of the lake. It is the home of a Dutch couple (who speak perfect English). We spent three weeks in their Cabins while we organized the building of our bodega/house. The cabins are fitted out with EVERYTHING you need to live and they are bright and clean and charming, as are your hosts Willeke & Kas. Prices are very reasonable at around $35/night.
The house is set on a high spot overlooking the lake and the Volcano, in all our trips to CR, it is from B&B Monte Terras that we have seen the steam and lava flow of the errupting Volcan Arenal. You can reach them via their web site at http://www.monteterras.com.
This is obviously a commercial post but we’ll allow it

What time of the month/year did you stay at that B&B?
Harvey
Scott,
Sincere apologies, it was not intended to be a commercial post, Wilika & Kaas did not ask me to post the info, after having stayed in two or three hotels around the lake and paying rather high prices for indifferent rooms & service, I thought that it would be of interest to other travellers.

Harvey,
We have stayed twice with them, both times in late November, early December.
