From The Cuba Central Team, an internent news letter:
CUBA’S DIPLOMACY
Costa Rica and Cuba Seek to Normalize Relations
Costa Rica and Cuba are making further strides towards normalizing relations, reports El Confidencial. On June 26, top diplomats of the two countries exchanged letters signifying the intention of both nations to expand bilateral cooperation. Additional cultural and education exchanges are planned, as are possible agreements on trade and migration.
Costa Rica also requested a bilateral agreement to settle debts that Cuban institutions owe Costa Rican exporting companies, reported La Nación. In March, the two countries reestablished diplomatic relations but have not yet sent ambassadors.
I read the above item today.
Migration between Cuba and Costa Rica would be interesting to watch unfold if it comes to pass. I wonder what the legalities are for an american expat with Costa Rican residencey who wishes to fly to Havana from Juan Santamaria to visit.
it would be the same illegal activety since you are an american.. costa rica residency means nothing when you travel.. now if you have a costa rica passport.. that would be a different situation..
I have several American friends that have visited Cuba via San Jose and Mexico City in the last year. Your US Passport will have an inserted visa page (must request) so that it is not a permanent stamp in your passport; for a fee of course ($10-$20). Obviously, everything will have to be done with cash unless you also have a CR bank account and corresponding debit/credit card, however, I understand that credit cards are not as readily accepted as other Carribean nations.
