The General Assembly votes overwhelmingly to accord Palestine ‘Non-Member Observer State’ status in the United Nations…
Voting by an overwhelming majority — 138 in favour to 9 against (Canada, Czech Republic, Israel, Marshall Islands, Micronesia (Federated States of), Nauru, Panama, Palau, United States), with 41 abstentions — the General Assembly today accorded Palestine non-Member Observer State status in the United Nations.

How do you think Costa Rica should have voted?
December 2, 2012 at 4:03 am #165524costaricabillParticipantNo surprise! If the USA voted to give fresh milk to babies, CR would vote against it!

costa rica bill
it saddens me to say this BUT
because of the years of incompetence and LIES of the U.S. goverment.
I never believe anything at face value anylonger with them. since they always have a hidden agenda.
so yes. if the U.S. decided to give fresh milk to babies
I would vote against it. :x:x:x
December 2, 2012 at 4:01 pm #165526maravillaMemberIf CR voted FOR this, then I am proud of CR for standing up to the bullies — and surely there was some bullying going on because CR has become little more than a puppet state for the US. Good for CR for doing the right thing!!
December 2, 2012 at 5:41 pm #165527VictoriaLSTMemberWrong again, Maravilla!
When Israel was granted statehood, no one asked Muslims to leave the new country. Muslims pulled out, loudly proclaiming that they would make war, kill all the Jews or drive them into the sea, and extinguish the new state. Radical Islam still holds to that idea. Hamas, the Palestinian radicals, still holds to that idea. Granting even observer state status to a group which proclaims the destruction of a member state as their great purpose is abhorrent. CR should have voted ‘no’ on principle.
December 2, 2012 at 6:04 pm #165528maravillaMemberit is absolutely tragic how misinformed you are on this topic. there has been a genocidal menu in that territory for more than 85 years but it’s not as you claim it is. this didn’t start in 1948. please do some research. And i am HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY that CR did the RIGHT thing. And I’M Jewish!!! Stop watching Fox news and watch this:

When Israel was granted statehood, no one asked Muslims to leave the new country.
Well, you have this partially right, Victoria. It’s true that “. . . no one asked [emphasis added] Muslims to leave . . .”. They were dispossessed of their rightfully owned property, property which as a group they had occupied for many generations, and driven off at gunpoint. If you think that the entire Palestinian population decided of their own free will to mass together in Gaza, you clearly have no grasp of the historical facts.
If the Jewish people have any legal or moral right to a homeland (and I strongly assert that they do), then the Palestinians have the same right being, in fact, equally human as any other ethnic group. That radical factions of the Muslim population see the route to satisfaction of their needs and wants lying in armed conflict hardly makes them unique.

December 3, 2012 at 12:11 am #165531DavidCMurrayParticipantIn fairness to Victoria and others, maravilla, none of us knows what we don’t know. I mean, neither you nor I nor Victoria were actually there to witness what we’re talking about. We all must rely on secondhand accounts. That Victoria has gotten a skewed version of these events hardly makes her unique.
December 3, 2012 at 12:26 am #165532maravillaMemberi’ve been studying this issue for 40 years, and i have some very personal reasons for pursuing this line of inquiry. the information is out there; it isn’t obscure and it isn’t only for a few who are persistent like me to want to know exactly how all this started. but if you’re too lazy to go look for it, well, i can’t help you. you have to go back in history at least 200 years (or longer) to get a glimpse of today’s problems in that territory. watch the documentary i posted. it is historically accurate and mirrors everything else i have learned in my quest to understand the genesis of this massive problem. more than anything now, this is a human rights issue. that wall in Gaza is 24 feet high. imagine! 24 feet!!!! the palestinians are living in an open prison, and they are living like dogs. actually some dogs live better than that. 138 countries voted yes; 41 abstained; 9 including the US voted no! THAT IS BLOODY SHAMEFUL!!!

most people walk around in a sleep like state not even realizing what is going on around them.
i agree that the masses are ignorant but are quick to defend things they do NOT know or have a good understanding.
I spent the last 3 years immersing myself more and more in specifics areas of politics and economics attempting to understand what the hell is going on and to try to get a better understanding.
but the more I dive into the rabbit hole the more I realize that everyone is nuts!!!
and the people that are awake are either becoming preppers or they leave the country.
after this recent election I am now disconnecting to this area since it’s a time consuming task that does nothing except create more and questions.
I am going into 2013 to focus more on areas that are within my control and hopefully teach my kids self reliance and perseverance
and to never ever ever give up on thier dreams.
December 3, 2012 at 2:11 am #165534maravillaMemberi feel only marginally better that someone else recognizes how asleep the masses are. and uninformed. when i tried to explain to another Fox-News-watcher about this situation, i was told, “I don’t want my head all cluttered up with those facts.” oh, yes, facts. those pesky little things that can prove to you how dumb you really are. jajajaja your goals are noble davidd, and in reality, that is all you can do — none of us can change any of this mess we’re in. i do what i can do every single day, and some days, it’s just too overwhelming because the number of people i meet who don’t care about any of this is just mind-boggling. i wish i could live in their bubble and be inured to the suffering of any person or animal, but when i finally wrapped my head around the problems in the gaza, i was sick at heart for days. there is a huge and dangerous disconnect out there — where some people see other people as another life form, not deserving of basic human rights to live in peace and to have a country to call one’s own. shame shame shame on them.
December 3, 2012 at 1:30 pm #165535maravillaMemberthis is costa rica’s statement about why it voted as it did. i think it is really important to remember that costa rica has no standing army; we do not invade other territories to rape and pillage the citizens or the natural resources. costa rica promotes peace. many of us moved here to enjoy this new perspective on world problems and to no longer be part of the war-mongering that the US has become so good at. perhaps if one’s philosophy is contradictory to costa rica, you might want to entertain going back to where conflict, war, and denying basic human rights is the mode of operation. this is, after all, a fairly socialist country who provides what it can for its citizens. this premise alone makes me wonder who those who voted against Obamacare have the audacity to take part in the CAJA system here and who still promote conflict in one of the most sensitive areas of the world.
December 3, 2012 at 3:34 pm #165536VictoriaLSTMemberLet me get this straight: There is an 85+ year policy of genocide, but the UN is OK with that? Admit them to observer status anyway?

You’re talking about the Palestinians, right, Victoria? Let me just point out that Germany, Turkey, Iraq, Russia, Japan and Serbia, among others, are full members of the U.N. Like our own history vis a vis the native American population, none of their histories is exactly pristine pure on the genocide scale.
And while the Palestinians’ attitudes and behavior toward the Jews in Israel has certainly (and just maybe understandably) been hostile, you can hardly characterize their behavior to date as “genocidal”.
