    I have to ask

I see lots of men in this forum with wives from Costa Rica and after 25 years together my old lady went up that long stairway to heaven and she is not coming back but that was a few years back and since i am only 50 years old and still real fit and feel about ready once again to meet a special lady but how do you do that in Costa Rica?

Any ideas? Especially from those gringos happily married to their Tica ladies

A 50 year old Gringo in Costa Rica generally has no problem meeting Ticas, as usually there’s a flock of native golddiggers lining up for the opportunity. However, a special lady? That’s different. It’s not that they’re in short supply, it’s just that they’re hidden. They don’t hang out at the bars and casinos, instead they’re either at work or at home, many times caring for their children left over from a previous marriage, or out-of-wedlock tryst.

The good new is that Gringos offer a breath of fresh air for mature Ticas long under the thumb of their macho male partners. The key to opening this box, so chock full of adoring and sincere female companionship, is learning Spanish. Relationships based on non-communication are short-lived, and learning the language is the first step to understanding the culture.

Once you have the tools you need to say the right thing when the opportunity comes along, you create the opportunities. There are countless community and non-profit organizations in which you could become involved, as well as professional and trade groups. Find ways to become part of the fabric of day-to-day life, not just night life, tourist traps and Gringo gatherings, and you’ll develop a network of Tico and Tica acquaintances. Let news of your availability course its way through the grapevine, and you’re sure to meet a plethora, no, make that a gaggle, of wonderful Ticas to help you make your life on the “Rich Coast” that much richer!

    Great advice!

I am 47 years old and met and dated a gorgeous Tica for two years who worked as a real estate broker and another whilst cycling (until I discovered she had a husband at home who A: was a gun fanatic and B: Was a chronic alcoholic which I astutely assumed would not be a good combination).

My existing lady love and I have been together for four years now and I met her because she owned a chain of shoe shops and one day, whilst buying a new pair of boots we started chatting. The boots only lasted a year but we’re still going strong.

The point of this story is to confirm what GringoTico is saying. I do NOT go to bars and have met dozens more truly magnificent women in my daily life.

Once you’re properly established here, your problem won’t be a case of will I ever meet a special lady? It will be more of a case of which one? And that’s obviously the difficult part…

I concure with both Gringotico and Scott,

You will not find the good match at the bars. How ever you will find many great ticas in circles such as family members or churches or organizations, shopping malls, gyms and many other places.
Like Gringotico states that it is a breath of fresh air for the Ticas from the problems that plage the macho society.

I was lucky by meeting mine on the internet but that is a whole different story!

There are a lot of beautiful women in CR looking for an American Husband. For some of them it is a quest …. just to have the “Rich American Husband”.
They have the thought that ALL Americans are rolling in money. They expect to get it…..no matter what it takes! Be careful !! They see an American and assume you are rich and you will spend it on them.

Be aware of plots of “friendships”..Some of the Tico’s will take advantage of a gringo in a heartbeat.

A friend of ours got “rolled”. He fell “in love” with a lovely Tica. While he was sleeping…The lovely Tica and her boyfriend took all of his money, ID, Passport,Cloths and keys. They stole everything he had. The guy was heart broken alone with no money and no cloths.

Be carefull expecting a whirlwind romance. It could turn into a tornado FAST!!
    Good Luck !!

OK… I will not “beat the drum” any further about the dangers of golddiggers, etc..That is all true enough, as well as bars, etc. NOT being the “place to look”. The only breath of fresh air I might inject is… Do not “look”. As in any other place in the world, the best just sorta ‘happens’. My wife asked me what time it was at a local dance. I was just hanging around, and there she was. She told me, much later, that she had been eyeing me for months. Quite flattering, no??? Anyhow,1 1/2 years later we married. I am quite old (figuratively speaking)and she is quite young, and nearly 4 years after matrimony, I am the father of a 7 month old boy. I have never been happier in my 57 years of life. My first child, no less!!! Whew!!!

For a like at home experience, do not overlook the gringas in CR like Margie Davis, who posted on this board.
