Latin America and the Caribbean received 153.448 million dollars of foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2011, representing 10% of these global flows, according to a report released today by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, CEPAL.

FDI in Central America increased by 36% as compared to 2010 and Costa Rica received $2,104 million dollars during 2011; Panama received $2,790 million and Honduras received $1,014 million. FDI into Caribbean countries rose by 20% compared to 2010, with the Dominican Republic receiving the most at;$2,371 million dollars.

Despite the uncertainty that still reigns in global financial markets, the economies of Latin America and the Caribbean attracted significant amounts of FDI in 2011, and it appears that increasing amounts of FDI will continue in 2012.
