Britan’s New Economics Foundation has published its Happy Planet Index 2012 and it reports that Costa Rica stands out as the happiest country in the world.

The new economics foundation is an independent think-and-do tank that inspires and demonstrates real economic well-being.

    The report measures three factors:

1.The welfare of the inhabitants, based on a Gallup survey

    2.Life expectancy at birth

3.The ecological footprint of a nation.

The first two items are multiplied and divided by the ecological footprint, which is the amount of resources consumed against the country’s capacity to generate ecosystem.

According to the report, life expectancy in Costa Rica is 79.3 years and the ecological footprint is 2.5 grams per capita.

In a press release, the news Economics Foundation stated; “Countries like Costa Rica lead the pack because their inhabitants live long and happy lives using only a fraction of the planet’s resources.

This is an economic model that can actually lead to healthy, happy and sustainable lives.”

If we can get enough expats, realtors, developers, high rises and golf courses established in CR, I’m sure we can eliminate that ecological footprint post-haste!

Uh oh. . . is my membership cancelled?

Thank you, Shirley. I was wondering when somebody else would catch onto that one.

Of course, right here on earth we do have Mercury cars, Venus de Milo, Mars candy bars, Saturn cars, Pluto*, Neptune (Maytag front loaders), lots of Uranuses, and Jupiter, Florida, so why not Costa Rica?
