We thought this might be helpful to some of you thinking of building in Costa Rica…
This link is to a photo album of construction of a spec home being built in Samara…

We hired someone who works at an internet cafe to take photos, twice per week of our construction in Samara….
The home and “out” buildings = 130 m2 and will have a 20 m2 pool
The constrution cost with pool is $99,100.00 = $670 m2
This costs includes septic and all permitsThe link provides a good example of time frame and quality of a competent builder in the area…a similar home built by the same builder can be seen in the adjacent website for “Casa Verano”
Hope this helps some of you!!!

I am intensely interested in this subject as I am planning a home construction in the Central Valley. I am still trying to work out how I can be present during the construction while I keep my self employed in Miami until my retirement. Please consider writing an article about your experience.
I took a few photos of a house under construction in Palmares, not far from my property. I was very impressed with the quality of workmanship and the luxurious details all around the project. An engineer on site estimated costs at about $75 a square foot. We are talking swimming pool, granite counter tops, quality tile flooring and intricate plaster work on interior walls and ceilings. The locals seem to know what they are doing.

1- know the builders level of quality – look at his past work
2- hire someone to take photos (twice a week works for us)
3- if you dont speak the language hire a FLUENT translater to speak with the builder on a weekly basis…
4- have a local attorney write up a contract, so EVERYTHING is in writing especially detailing the draws (when and how much you will give to the builder)example
1) 15% to start
2) 20% grey concrete work complete
3) 20% roof started
4) 20% roof coomplete
5) 20% cabinets, flooring
6) 5% final walkthru
5) It is a good idea to hold some money to make sure everything is finished and you wont have to wait 3 months waiting on your builder to “finish the gutters”Get the idea???

Who is the builder of your homes?July 23, 2007 at 12:04 pm #185224geminigioMemberI just took a look at the construction and it looks great, thanks for posting the information. The price per sq. foot is right in line with what I’m looking to spend, can you tell me the name of this builder?
Thanks again,
Artie Giordano
