However he speaks only spanish so you may need a translator. He can do everything though, all hand made.. beds, tables, chairs, dressers, kitchen furniture, doors, etc. all with hardwood and custom made to your specs. I have a construction company here and I use him for all the furniture we need, best prices I have come across. His place is really hard to find, unless you know where to look, and he only speaks spanish. But if you can find his shop it would be worth it.. if you interested let me know, I could perhaps help translate for you.. he needs some business right now, now that the economy is slowing down.. you can email me at caliskatari@gmail.com if your interested in meeting up with him

I need a few custom pieces made asap for the place I’m renting out and when my house construction gets rolling later this year will need much much more so would be great to test someone out on a few pieces first before going whole hog.
My Spanish is passable – once I get in contact with someone I can get my ideas across (-:
Thanks!

If you’re having a bunch of stuff made, the additional transportation cost from Sarchi to your site shouldn’t be a budget buster.
June 10, 2011 at 2:24 pm #198069sstarkeyMemberThanks David. FFOS has little signs posted around here on trees and I’ve seen their website. May give them a test drive due to your recommendation!

June 13, 2011 at 6:38 pm #198071caliskatariParticipantBecause its custom furniture we are talking about, and something you will want to check the progress of throughout its construction, choosing a wood worker in a place you pass by or can get to is a must. Unless its a big furniture company which can send photos of progress, if you want to make sure your getting what you paid for is a good idea to make random “checkins” to see progress. The furniture maker I mentioned previously is right off the main road to Liberia, I find it convient that when I am having work done I just stop by when Im heading to Liberia.

Oops..Playa Conchal 😀 Prefer to find someone within 1 hour drive or so.
June 14, 2011 at 6:07 pm #198073costaricabillParticipantOn the road from Tamarindo to Santa Cruz, out in the middle of nowhere, there is a custom furniture maker that I have heard good things about. I am going to be up that way later this week, so let me know what you are looking for and I’ll stop in and see if he does want you are wanting and I’ll send you a report including the name, a better description of his location and what his furniture looks like, quality, etc. Other members may already be familiar with this business and can also fill in the blanks.

June 20, 2011 at 6:13 pm #198075Doug WardMemberThe best furniture builder on the planet is in Tilaran. Arturo Murillo.
I deigned everything that is in my house. He built 95% of it.
I built a little bit myself.
If you want average nice stuff there are many, many good tallers in CR. If you want gallery-museum quality art, Arturo is your man.
Too bad we can’t post pictures here.I’d blow your mind.June 20, 2011 at 8:28 pm #198076caliskatariParticipantHey Doug!! Its Jarryd.. I never knew you posted here!?
I can say that Doug does have some of the nicest furniture I have ever seen, period. But Tilaran is a bit far from most people who live at the beach in Guanacaste, but if your looking to furnish a entire home with some of the nicest custom furniture money can buy, it may be worth it to get in touch with Doug’s guy. Otherwise the place I recommend does some great work as well, and may be more convenient for most smaller jobs. Sarah ended up using Alfredo who I recommended, lets see what she has to say about it when the work is done.. 🙂
June 22, 2011 at 5:56 pm #198077sstarkeyMemberHappy to report that I just received my beautiful new side-table with 4 drawers made by Alfredo from Guanacaste wood. It’s very well constructed and the natural finish is beautiful. We even found some Melina wood on my property and on the neighbors’ lot that Alfredo may take to make other pieces if it’s in good shape.
Thanks for the help Jarryd – that’s what this Forum is all about!
