We have a bunch of Indonesian and Indian furniture, and we are looking to get a few more pieces made.
Does anyone know if the folks in Sarchi can handle copying things like Bali Day Beds? I know that I have heard that “they can make anything ” there in Sarchi. I have never been, is there anyplace in particular that might serve us better? particularly for good carving ability?
Thanks for any suggestions.
BTW, I do know of the places in SJ that import these items from Asia, and we are working with them, but we will still need a few larger pieces made.
Thanks.
Fine Furniture of Sarchi has a very impressive website. If that’s any indication, it might be a good place to start.
Personally, I’d stay away from the factories in Sarchi. There are plenty of good furniture makers throughout the country who are not so tourist-oriented and who do good custom work at reasonable prices. The process is easy: ask around your area for recommendations, look at samples of their work to judge quality, show them what you want, select a wood, get a price quote (or several, if you so desire), and sign a written contract. It can be simple and hand-written but will avoid surprises and misunderstandings. Most will want 50% prior to building the furniture and the balance on completion.
