I also rented a Tracker from Dean. I was under the impression that his rentals would be a quility vehicle. After wasting an hour at the airport I finally recieved my rental car. It was really a piece of Cr**.The tires a had very little tread left & the spare was even worse.Unfortuntly for me it was raining and when I turned on my windshield wipers it accually made the vision even worse. My wife cried all the way the Jaco becuase see thought we going to die.Since these Trackers have soft tops on them, security is very poor.A thief could enter your vehicle with very little effort.I was hoping my experence was uncommon, but apearently not.

September 25, 2006 at 2:12 pm #178913ranchosMemberThere´s a saying in CR:
Lo barato sale caro.
Cheap things turn out expensive.
Used rentals are used rentals, more chance of breakdowns, less vehicles to replace the one you have, and you can get a small SUV, new, from a reputable company, for about the same price as a used piece of cr_ _, but even if you spent $100 more for a week´s rental, peace of mind is priceless. How much is it worth to not have your wife crying all the way to Jaco?
At my B and B I advise using a company that we use all the time, they don´t screw you with dings and stuff (otherwise they lose all our business).

Jose:
Well put Jose. I advise this same way.
Go ahead and rent from whomever and make your own decision. Any percentage of disgruntled customers gives me reason to find another company to give my business. Customers are earned with reputation, clients return and refferals with good support and product.
1) Don’t pay anything upfront for a deposit or rental. If a company can’t work this way, I suggest going to different rental agency. Any reputable company would use your card to hold the vehicle and you would be able to cancel when needed.
2) If you don’t like the vehicle when the drop is made, DON’T PAY.
3) Have a contingent rental company available. For a few dollars more you will have peace of mind and a reliable vehicle. There are many rental agencies in the area that would love to rent a vehicle to you.
Jose, I am happy you have returned from your “European Vacation”.
I will see you the 11th October 2006.
Cheers

September 25, 2006 at 8:50 pm #178915AndrewKeymasterForgive me Bill but I’m a bit confused here
In trying to find out exactly what’s going on here, Dean Krieg tells me that you have never even rented a car from him?
Have you rented a car from him or not?

Bill MaesSeptember 25, 2006 at 10:02 pm #178917AndrewKeymasterThanks Bill. I think this topic has been covered pretty thoroughly now. I understand your friends had a negative experience and I am sorry that happened but as you can see from this forum, there are quite a few people who have also had very positive experiences.
Having said that, I will ask Dean personally to make a very special effort to ensure that we always have much more positive than negative in the future.

Just want to tell everyone how pleased I am with the way our reservation for car rental was handled. My husband was diagnosed with colon cancer on the 25th of Sept. had surgery on the 27 and will not be able to travel for some time. I notifed Dean and was given full credit without any penalty for one year. I could not be happier. Thanks to all!December 17, 2006 at 7:34 am #178919katalanMemberI’m new on the forum. My husband and I rented a 4 x 4 Tracker from Dean Krieg and were completely happy with the service (delivered the car to our hotel), cost, and performance. No breakdowns, no problems period, and a great price. We’ll rent from him again on our next visit.
We’ve bought land in Agua Zarcas, and may have quite a few questions, although I’ll read all the postings first to be sure they’ve not already been answered. See you around — and thanks for all the practical advice! Katalan
