Just wondering what everybody else is hearing locally about people getting dengue. My ninera’s 3 children have contracted it in the last month. They live in Jaco. I remember the last time we lived in Rica we heard from the local population well before we read about the epidemic in the papers. Of course, that was a year(2005) the goverment decided not to spray and just to try and encourage people to protect themselves. Also, what products do people like to use for themselves? They all smell so strong, ick. Anybody know of something that works and is unscented?

I haven’t heard of any cases of Dengue in the San Jose area this year; it is more prevalent in the humid coastal areas of the Country. There is no vaccine available to take to prevent Dengue. Using OFF Repelent is the best protection when in mosquito- risk areas.

Well, since only watchdog responded, I guess dengue isn’t to bad right now. Fingers crossed that it’s true nobody knows anywhere else other than Jaco that has an early problem. My nanny reports that they sprayed her area a couple times. She also added they are taking ambulances full of people to the public hospitals for further treatment.

I am in the proccess of getting over it. I have had it for A month. with the inital onset then 2 re-occurences. they took blood. my plaquettes were so low that they kept vigil by phone with me.
Here in Jaco they have had A very bad time with it. it’s A dfaytime bite. they are picking up pipas off the beach and finding that the dungue larva are more prominent in them than standing water for some reason.(this info came from the dr. and the pharmacist)
what A horrific time.I cannot imagine what A kid or child would think/feel.personally the third onset was the worst.I wished just to drop the — dead.
